Updated
Toloka's own page for task performers now redirects to Mindrift, which says that Toloka and Toloka Annotators work has moved there and that existing Toloka accounts, balances and history were carried over automatically.
Mindrift is run by the same company, Toloka AI BV. Toloka's own website now presents Toloka as an AI training-data company for business customers rather than a place where individuals sign up for tasks.
Because of that move, the real question for most people is no longer whether Toloka is legit today, but what Mindrift offers and what else is out there if it does not fit.
What Toloka is and what it became
Toloka was a crowd platform where people, called Tolokers, were paid for completing small online tasks for an AI data company. That individual task work has moved to Mindrift, a platform operated by the same company, Toloka AI BV, where contributors work as independent freelancers and are paid per completed and accepted task.
On Mindrift, tasks include rating and comparing AI responses, labeling and classifying content, verifying information, judging search results or ads for relevance, and recording short videos. There are also specialized projects that require passing qualification tasks or having domain expertise, such as writing prompts or evaluating and improving AI outputs. Each task shows its reward before it is started, and payment only happens for tasks that are completed and accepted.
Who can join
A contributor needs to be at least 18, or the age of legal majority in both their country of citizenship and country of residence, and must be able to pass identity, residency and eligibility verification. Work is done as an independent contractor, not as an employee, so the contributor handles their own taxes. Mindrift's welcome page says people can join from any country, but its eligibility page lists a long set of restricted jurisdictions, plus a separate list of locations that are not currently supported, including Kenya. VPNs and proxies are not allowed.

What to look for in a similar app
If a task platform like this does not work for you, or you are in a country Mindrift does not support, look for a few basics before you sign up anywhere else. Check who runs the platform and whether that is stated clearly, not hidden behind a generic support address.
- Whether tasks show their reward and requirements before you start, and whether payment depends on a task being accepted afterward.
- Whether your country is actually supported, since many task platforms list exclusions rather than a full list of supported countries.
- What payout methods are offered and whether a payment processor's own fees or rules apply.
- Whether there is a stated minimum age and verification step.
- Whether the site is upfront that this is task-based or contract income, not a job with steady pay.
Mindrift (formerly Toloka) compared with PocketsFull
The two are different kinds of platforms: one pays for completed micro-tasks as contract work, the other is a rewards site for surveys and offers.
| What it is | PocketsFull | Mindrift (formerly Toloka) |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | Rewards site for surveys and offers | AI data company; task platform for contributors |
| How you earn | Earn rewards by completing surveys and offers | Paid per completed and accepted micro-task |
| Payout options | Local gift cards, PayPal, Litecoin, depending on country | Payoneer, PayPal (via Tipalti) |
| Where it works | Available where PocketsFull surveys and offers are offered | Open except for restricted or unsupported countries |
| App | Android app on Google Play; website also works in a phone browser | Android app listed on Google Play, status unclear since the move |
| Minimum age | 13, with parental or guardian consent under 18 | 18, or local age of majority |
How PocketsFull is different
PocketsFull is not a micro-task or AI-data platform. It is a rewards site: members complete paid surveys and offers, including many game and app offers, and redeem the rewards they collect. Joining and using PocketsFull is free, and there is never a deposit or payment required to earn.
Where Mindrift pays per accepted task as contract work, PocketsFull rewards are earned through survey and offer completions that are checked and confirmed by the partner before they are added to the balance. Some offers take 7 to 30 days to confirm, and each offer states its own confirmation time. Not every survey fits every person, since survey providers look for specific profiles, so being screened out before the end happens to everyone from time to time. Keeping a profile complete, accurate and up to date helps with being matched to more surveys.
PocketsFull also has a separate free-games page with browser games that need no download and no sign-up, but those are for fun and do not pay rewards. The minimum age on PocketsFull is 13, with parental or guardian consent required under 18, which is different from the 18-plus requirement on Mindrift.
