Draughts is the classic board game played on a 10x10 board, also known as international draughts. Your goal is to capture all of your opponent's pieces, or block them so they cannot move. Pieces move diagonally across the dark squares, and skilled players plan several moves ahead to set up captures while protecting their own pieces from being taken.
How to play Draughts
Move your pieces diagonally, one square at a time, across the dark squares of the board. When an opponent's piece sits next to yours with an empty square behind it, jump over to capture it. If your piece reaches the far row of the board, it becomes a King, gaining the ability to move diagonally across multiple squares in any direction. Capture all opposing pieces, or trap them so they have no legal move, to win.
Tips for playing Draughts
- Look for chances to capture before moving, since leaving a piece exposed can let your opponent jump it on their turn.
- Push pieces toward the far row early to create Kings, which move more freely and control the board better.
- Keep your pieces grouped together rather than scattered, so a single move cannot be captured from multiple directions.
